Torreya State Park
If you’re looking to visit one of the most scenic locations in Florida, you can’t miss Torreya State Park. Just west of Tallahassee, you’ll find a vast forest filled with sourwood trees, sweetgum and southern sugar maple. In late October, this area begins to blaze with an array of colors, which peak in mid-November. Discover over fifteen miles of trails that twist through rivers and canyons. We recommend booking a site at The Torreya State Park Campground. It’s equipped with electric and water hookups, picnic tables, fire pits, drinking water, toilets and hot water. Plus, this beautiful park overlooks the Apalachicola River.
Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park
Heading south of Tallahassee, you’ll discover the world’s largest freshwater springs. Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park is filled with red sugar maples, tan beech trees and beautyberry bushes that turn deep purple when the temperatures cool. Here, you can take a guided tour along the Wakulla River on a glass-bottomed boat, where you can peer at spectacular underwater views. If you’re lucky, you may even spot a manatee. Above water, you’ll also be enchanted by the diverse wildlife and colorful leaves.
Three Rivers State Park
On the border between Florida and Georgia, you’ll find Three Rivers State Park. Here, the Flint and Chattahoochee rivers connect, forming Lake Seminole. Many of the sites have waterfront views, allowing visitors to easily experience some of the best freshwater fishing in the state. Besides witnessing the beautiful lakes, rivers and vivid hardwood trees, there are white–tailed deer, gray foxes and a diverse array of birds. It’s a wonderful place to kick back, relax and enjoy the fall season.
